Laser Therapy

We provide Low Level Laser Therapy services

The term Laser is the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A laser light is monochromatic, collimated, and coherent. A laser  is a device that produces such a light. Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is used by some physiotherapists to treat various musculoskeletal condition. LLLT is a non-invasive light source treatment that generates a single wavelength of light. It emits no heat, sound, or vibration. It is also called photobiology or biostimulation.

LLLT is believed to affect the function of connective tissue cells (fibroblasts), accelerate connective tissue repair and act as an anti-inflammatory agent. Lasers with different wavelengths, varying from 632 to 904 nm, are used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.  other chronic tendon disorders.

The effects of the LLLT which are significant for physiotherapy, and makes this tool useful to enhance other treatments as therapeutic exercise, are:

  • Reduction of inflammation: It can occur within hours to days.
  • Pain relief
  • Accelerated tissue regeneration: LLLT stimulates cell proliferation of fibroblasts  keratinocytes  endothelial cells and lymphocytes.

Laser Therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  1. Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip and ankle
  2. Rheumatoid arthritis
  3. TMD
  4. Shoulder impingement syndromes
  5. Hip or shoulder bursitis
  6. Low back disc degeneration
  7. Disc herniation
  8. Sciatica
  9. neuropathic pain
  10. Tendonitis
  11. Tennis elbow
  12. Plantar fasciitis
  13. Reduction of volume and pain in lymphedema

” We have upgraded our cold laser to a much more powerful, deeper healing laser therapy “

Cold laser or low level laser is light or photon energy with the unique property of being able to penetrate up to two inches below the skin surface causing an increase in cellular metabolism with no tissue damage whatsoever.

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT ) dramatically reduces musculoskeletal pain and inflammation as well as promoting tissue repair wherever the laser beam is applied. This is not a heat treatment, the effects are photochemical.

Unlike high-power medical laser, which are widely used to safety cut and remove tissue, the Low Level Laser penetrates the surface of the skin with no heating effect or damage. The energy is directed deep into effected area stimulating the body’s cells which convert the energy into chemical energy to promote natural healing.

What is Low Level Laser being used to treat?

Low Level Laser is being used to treat a variety of painful and inflamed conditions of the soft tissues and joints such as carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, back pain, sport injuries.

Low-level laser therapy is the application of red and near infrared light over injuries or wounds to improve soft tissue healing and relieve both acute and chronic pain. Low-level therapy uses cold (subthermal) laser light energy to direct bio-stimulative light energy to the body’s cells without injuring or damaging them in any way. The therapy is precise and accurate; and offers safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions.

Low-level lasers supply energy to the body in the form of non-thermal photons of light. Light is transmitted through the skin’s layers (the dermis, epidermis and the subcutaneous tissue or tissue fat under the skin) at all wavelengths in the visible range. However, light waves in the near infrared ranges penetrate the deepest of all light waves in the visible spectrum.

When low level laser light waves penetrate deeply into the skin, they optimize the immune responses of our blood. This has both anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. It is a scientific fact that light transmitted to the blood in this way has positive effective throughout the whole body, supplying vital oxygen and energy to every cell.

Many acute and chronic conditions can be improved or eliminated with laser use, including:

* Pain Relief
* Wound Healing
* Arthritis
* Migraine headaches
* Lower back pain
* Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI)
* Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
* Tendonitis
* Fibromyalgia
* Sprains and strains

* Post-operative pain

* Tennis Elbow
* Golfer’s Elbow
* TMJ
* Soft tissue injuries
* Post-operative wounds
* Swelling
* Burns
* Pressure sores
* Herpes simplex
* Acne
